TFC and Seattle introduce their new shirts

December 9, 2008 · 5 Comments

Last week Toronto FC showed off its 2009 shirts and, I have to say, I am not impressed. What on earth is going on with the sleeves. You’ve got red, grey, and white bits all swooping around to no great conclusion. I am also surprised that the league’s biggest europoseurs didn’t demand a collar. Heck, I am impressed they didn’t just order up a complete Manchester United replica like Japan’s Urawa Reds.

Seattle introduced its shirt as well last week. Yet again, I just can’t help thinking that there is way too much going on there. There’s green. There’s blue trim. There’s blue piping. Oh, and there’s the de rigueur Adidas three stripes. Also, was their intent to color coordinate the shirt with the MLS ball? If so, clearly Freddie is having a greater role in the club than any of us quite imagined.

Does anyone else know if any other teams are introducing new shirts?

I don’t know about their uniforms, but I’m impressed with the way that the Seattle Sounders released them… with a runway show. Pretty classy and cool.

Even in non-game promotional material, we can’t escape the damn football lines!

It seems everything Seattle is doing probably has good money behind it - hopefully it withstands the current economic situation.

Hopefully they hit the ground running when it comes to game time next season. I kind of don’t want to see them do everything the way it should be done in the run up and then go 5-21-4.

The TFC shirt doesn’t seem very different.
