Jim McKay, one of the greatest voices in American sportscasting, passed away Saturday at 86. An icon at ABC, he was most famous for hosting Wide World of Sports, the Olympics (including being live during the 1972 Munich tragedy), the Triple Crown and the Indianapolis 500, where I watched him most.
He was an example of a different kind of sportscasting, one where the game mattered above all and no hype was necessary.
Truly one of the best, he will be missed.
